We keep images in our minds to remind us that we are human

Two days after reading Marco Bohr’s article about refugees risking their lives as they flee the conflicts in the Middle East, this image of a child who dies trying to flee the conflict across the Mediterranean in a rubber dingy with his family appeared.

In his earlier post, Bohr comments that we rarely see the dead refugees – who by this lack of images, lose their humanity for us.  This series of images, of the child, and a Turkish soldier respectfully cradling the body to a safer place, too late for life, makes it graphically clear that this is a humanitarian crisis.
