ACTIVITY ONE: Draw from the readings and material covered in class to create a digital or traditional collage that reflects your understanding of what visual culture is/can be.
My visual collage is a video clip. The eyes represent the fact that one of our main ways of experiencing the world is visual. As we process this information, it all becomes part of our personal world view – of our visual culture. Each person has a unique visual culture, though a personal visual culture has much in common with that of ones peers. Thus, members of our Visual Culture course, now have common images and concepts evoked by the series of John Berger videos – Ways of Seeing.
By the time one reaches adulthood, one has a mind bank of countless images, which can be evoked by memory, seeing the image again, or some other stimulus.
As I am taking Visual Culture as a subject in a visual arts degree, the images shown in the eye of my videoclip are mainly fine art paintings. I have categorised these images into portraits, nude studies, landscapes and more abstract works.
